BRC has planned to start three new projects and has started the process to collaborate with Oxford Center for Hindu Studies for the same.
Philosophical Counselling Through Classical Indian Text Research Project
Philosophical counseling is a collaborative and conversational activity be tween a trained philosopher and a client in which the client’s life-problems are worked through by identifying, examining, and revising as necessary the operating beliefs, values, and habits of action that inform those problems. All the existing models of philosophical counselling are based on Western philosophical insights like existential ism, logic and Greek thoughts. Though they are relevant universally, they reflect a western way of looking at the problems. Therefore, there is a need felt to introduce an Indian variant . Various ancient Indian text have been highly philosophical, and hold immense potential to serve as a relevant source for acquiring different models for philosophical counselli ng. In this project we will use various inter religious texts to develop philosophical counselling models.
Gaudiya Vaishnava Abhidhana Research Project
The project primarily aims to translate the Sri Sri Gaudiya Vaisnava Abhidhana, Volumes I to IV, written by Haridas Das. At this point, the translation of the Caritavali section of the 3rd Volume of the Abhidhana is in progress. The Caritavali contains biographical entries of prominent figures of Bengal – leaders, poets, disciples; especially the followers and associates of Caitanya Deva. The translated work will be supplemented with additional comments, annotations and supplementary notes on each entry. The project thus aims to create a comprehensive Gaudiya Vaishnava Encyclopaedia in English.
Periodicals of Colonial India Research Project
The periodicals published in Colonial Bengal occupy a very important space in the evolutionary history of the culture of Bengal in the modern period. They not only exhibited the way in which public propagation of social reforms through print media began in modern India but also laid down the basic parameters of cultural reformism.
